Prayer Based On Hebrews

The Letter to the Hebrews contains so much   highlights from the Old Testament, words to live by, quotes from Jeremiah and Psalms-that following a group study, I wrote out some specially meaningful bits in more ordinary language than we read in the good book, and came up with this prayer that covers a lot of ground!
Prayer growing out of Hebrews 8 and 10
Make us true followers, Lord.
Put your laws into our minds;
write them on our hearts.

You are our God; we are your people!
May we all know you so that
we shall not have to teach each other.

Let your love so show itself in our hearts and minds
that we truly share one another's burdens

and rejoice in each other's joys.

Such union is ours only through you.
We give thanks for your love that we see and feel
when we listen

when we share

when we smile

when we are cheered

when we read your word together

when we 'see the light'

when we care for others

when we are comforted.

Let us consider how to stir up one another
to love and good works, encouraging each other.

So often we are wrapped in our own thoughts;
teach us to listen for your word.

You know our hearts and minds better than we ourselves.
Help us to hear your word in the quiet of the day.
Help us to find quiet time with you so that you may use
our hands to do your work.

May our actions reflect the love that you made ours
by sending your son Jesus to us.

In His name we pray.

Amen
